The Toronto Argonauts have re-signed American linebacker Wynton McManis ahead of CFL free agency.

McManis joined Toronto last offseason after spending the past two years in the NFL and quickly established himself as the team’s nominee for Most Outstanding Defensive Player. He amassed 88 defensive tackles, seven special teams tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, and one forced fumble in 14 games played before a knee injury cut his regular-season short, earning CFL All-Star honours.

McManis returned to the lineup for the Argos’ East Final matchup with the Montreal Alouettes, recording one tackle before reaggravating his injury.

The Memphis product began his CFL career with the Calgary Stampeders in 2017, playing three seasons with the team. He has compiled 192 defensive tackles, 48 special teams tackles, seven sacks, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and one interception in 57 regular season games.

McManis originally signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2016, dressing for two NFL games. He later spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins, playing one game before returning to the CFL.
