The Ottawa Redblacks have signed American defensive back Money Hunter to a one-year contract extension, the team announced on Tuesday. He was scheduled to become a free agent in two weeks.

The six-foot-one, 193-pound cover man started 12 games for the team in 2022 and recorded 38 tackles and four interceptions, setting a new career high. It was his first season with the Redblacks after joining them as a free agent last winter.

The 27-year-old broke into the league as a member of the Edmonton Elks in 2018 and played two seasons with the team, making 85 defensive tackles 11 special teams tackles, four interceptions, and one sack over 30 games with the team.

Hunter signed with the Montreal Alouettes in February 2020 and made his debut with the team in August 2021 following the cancellation of the 2020 CFL season. He made 44 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, two interceptions, and one sack with the club and was named an East Division all-star.
