The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed Canadian linebacker Shayne Gauthier to a one-year contract, according to 3DownNation reporter John Hodge. He was scheduled to become a free agent next month.
The 30-year-old made a career-high 28 defensive tackles this past season along with five special teams tackles and two sacks. He made four starts at weak-side linebacker in 2022 along with one start at middle linebacker.
The five-foot-ten, 223-pound defender has made 43 defensive tackles, 54 special teams tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble over 81 career games as a member of the Blue Bombers.
Gauthier was selected in the fourth round, 28th overall, in the 2016 CFL Draft out of Université Laval. He made 130 tackles over seasons with the Rouge et Or, was a two-time RSEQ all-star, and earned U Sports second-team All-Canadian honours as a senior.
Gauthier has won two Grey Cups as a member of the Blue Bombers, taking home titles in 2019 and 2021.
