The Calgary Stampeders have signed American receiver and kick returner Tommylee Lewis, the club announced on Monday.
The five-foot-seven, 168-pound speedster signed with the New Orleans Saints after going unselected in the 2016 NFL Draft. He dressed for 39 games over four seasons with the team, recording 21 receptions for 257 yards and two touchdowns, nine carries for 49 yards, 45 punt returns for 404 yards, and 27 kickoff returns for 617 yards.
The 30-year-old joined the Miami Dolphins as a free agent in 2021 and played two games with the team, making one reception for seven yards, three punt returns for four yards, and one kickoff return for 23 yards. He was also a member of the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers, though he never dressed for either team in a regular season game.
Lewis played collegiately at Northern Illinois where he was a teammate of Canadian receiver Juwan Brescacin. He finished his college career second all-time in school history with 1,673 kickoff return yards, fifth all-time in receptions with 172, and sixth all-time in all-purpose yards with 4,068. He was named first-team all-Mid-American Conference honours in 2013.
The native of West Palm Beach, Fla. recorded a 4.48-second forty-yard dash at his pro day in March 2016 along with a 4.22-second shuttle, 7.13-second three-cone drill, 34-inch vertical, 120-inch broad jump, and 11 reps of 225 pound on the bench press.
