The Calgary Stampeders have inked American defensive back Jonathan Moxey to a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2024 season.

Moxey played 16 games in his third season with the Stampeders and made starts at three different positions: boundary corner, field corner and boundary half. He recorded 26 defensive tackles and two special teams tackles while also leading the CFL with 13 pass knockdowns, earning 2022 West Division All-Star honours.

“Jonathan did a great job for us last year while playing multiple positions,” Stampeders’ general manager and head coach Dave Dickenson said in a statement. “His versatility and his energy make us a better team.”

In 34 career regular-season games with Calgary, Moxey has posted 52 defensive tackles, eight special teams tackles, two interceptions, 18 knockdowns, one fumble recovery and a defensive touchdown. He has played in two playoff games, notching a three-interception game against Saskatchewan in the 2021 West Semi-Final.

The Boise State product played 52 career games over four collegiate seasons with the Broncos. He recorded 134 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions, one sack, one forced fumble, and 31 pass breakups, earning second-team all-Mountain West honours in 2016.

Moxey spent time on NFL practice squads with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals before signing with the Stampeders.
