The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed Canadian defensive back Zach Herzog and American defensive back RJ Rountree, the club announced on Tuesday.
Herzog was a seventh-round selection of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 2022 CFL Draft out of Hillsdale College. He was in training camp with the team but was released following its conclusion.
The five-foot-nine, 192-pound native of Windsor, Ont. played 30 games over five seasons with the Chargers in NCAA Division II (2017-21), registering 244 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, one quarterback sack, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and three interceptions. He was named first-team All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference in 2019.
The 28-year-old entered the U Sports ranks this past year, playing 11 games with the UBC Thunderbirds. He made 49 total tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, four knockdowns, and one interception.
Rountree, 24, played 11 games at Virginia Union University this past season, registering 35 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, six pass breakups, one interception, and two blocked kicks.
The six-foot, 195-pound native of Silver Spring, Md. began his collegiate career at Concord University (2016-17) where he played one game in 2017 after redshirting the previous year. He transferred to Bowie State University where he played six games in 2019, registering two total tackles.
