Riders’ receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker works out for Cincinnati Bengals

Saskatchewan Roughriders’ receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker worked out for the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday, per sources.

The six-foot-four, 205-pound target made 68 receptions for 960 yards and five touchdowns this past season over 18 starts at wide receiver and slotback. He led the team in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns and was the second-most productive Canadian receiver league-wide behind only Kurleigh Gittens Jr. of the Toronto Argonauts.

The native of Mississauga, Ont. was a fourth-round pick out of the University of Guelph in the 2020 CFL Draft. He made an immediate impact as a rookie, recording 47 catches for 563 yards and two touchdowns over 12 games.

The 24-year-old remains under contract for 2023 but is permitted to pursue opportunities south of the border via the league’s NFL window. He is scheduled to become a CFL free agent in February 2024.

Schaffer-Baker has also worked out for the Jacksonville JaguarsPittsburgh SteelersIndianapolis ColtsTampa Bay BuccaneersLas Vegas RaidersMinnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, and New England Patriots this off-season.

CFL players are permitted to begin signing reserve/futures contracts for the 2023 NFL season on January 9. Among the other CFL players working out for the Bengals on Friday was B.C. Lions’ quarterback Nathan Rourke, Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ receiver Dalton Schoen, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ defensive back Tyrell Ford.
