Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign linebacker Kyrie Wilson to one-year contract extension

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed American linebacker Kyrie Wilson to a one-year contract extension, the announced on Friday. He was scheduled to become a free agent in February.

The six-foot-one, 221-pound defender played only four games this past season due to an Achilles injury, recording 17 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, and one sack.

The 30-year-old was a starter at weak-side linebacker during the club’s Grey Cup runs in 2019 and 2021. His best year came in 2019 when he made 63 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, three sacks, one interception, five knockdowns, and three fumble recoveries over 18 starts.

Wilson has played a total of 35 games since joining the Blue Bombers in 2017 and made 96 defensive tackles, 11 special teams tackles, four sacks, three fumble recoveries, and one interception.
