The Montreal Alouettes have re-signed a critical piece of their defence, inking veteran defensive tackle Almondo Sewell to a new two-year deal that will keep him with the team through 2024.
The six-foot-four, 288-pound lineman registered 19 defensive tackles and three quarterback sacks in 16 games with the Alouettes in 2022. He also added four defensive tackles and two sacks in the team’s two playoff outings.
“Almondo is a very physical player that is hard to play against,” Alouettes’ general manager Danny Maciocia said in a statement. “He knows our system and has done a good job with us. He will continue to be a good mentor for our young players in the locker room.”
The 35-year-old future Hall of Famer has played in 169 career CFL games over 11 seasons, notching 320 defensive tackles and 68 quarterback sacks. He has been named a league all-star on six different occasions.
The former Akron University Zip played nine seasons in Edmonton before coming to Montreal in 2021. He won a Grey Cup with the green and gold in 2015, his only championship appearance.
