Saskatchewan Roughriders sign three Canadians, including former Regina Rams’ receiver Riley Boersma

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed three Canadian players, including receiver Riley Boersma, offensive lineman Diego Alatorre Montoya, and defensive back Tristan Fleury.

Boersma was selected in the eighth round of the 2022 CFL Draft out of the University of Regina and attended training camp with the Riders before returning to U Sports for his last year of eligibility.

The five-foot-ten, 191-pound target made 73 catches for 1,074 yards and six touchdowns over 25 games with the Rams, averaging 19.6 yards per reception. He also ran the ball 12 times for 86 yards. The native of Cambridge, Ont. had a strong showing at the CFL Combine in 2022, recording the second-best 40-yard dash time at 4.49 seconds and tying for the best vertical jump at 40.5 inches.

Alatorre Montoya was selected in the third round of the 2022 CFL Draft and spent most of this past season on Saskatchewan’s practice roster, dressing for one game in an emergency situation.

The six-foot-three, 312-pound blocker played 31 games over four seasons with the UBC Thunderbirds at tackle and guard. He helped anchor an offensive line in 2021 and helped running back Isaiah Knight rush for 701 yards and three touchdowns and was named a Canada West all-star.

Fleury was selected in the fifth-round of the 2022 CFL Draft. Fleury spent training camp with the club before returning to school for his final season of U Sports eligibility with the McGill Redbirds.

The six-foot-two, 192-pound defender played 40 games with the club and made 164 career tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, three interceptions, and eleven pass breakups. He served as a team captain this past season.
