Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has issued a statement congratulating the Toronto Argonauts on becoming the 109th Grey Cup champions.

After a thrilling game, the Toronto Argonauts captured the 2022 Grey Cup against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. With today’s victory, the Toronto Argonauts have secured their 18th Grey Cup title.
For over a century The Grey Cup championship has been one of Canada’s most popular annual sporting events, uniting Canadians of all ages and backgrounds in celebration of sportsmanship and teamwork. Tonight, we come together to recognize the dedication and commitment of the players who make us proud and inspire us to lift each other up.

The Argonauts upset the two-time time defending champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers by a score of 24-23 on Sunday night in Regina, with Canadian defensive end Robbie Smith blocking a field goal with less than a minute left to secure victory. Backup quarterback Chad Kelly came off the bench in the fourth quarter to lead the team on the game-winning touchdown drive.
The team has plans to celebrate the Grey Cup win on Thursday with a rally at Maple Leaf Square in Toronto.
