Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ quarterback Zach Collaros will start the 109th Grey Cup on Sunday against the Toronto Argonauts.

“He will play Sunday,” general manager Kyle Walters told 3DownNation on Thursday. “By all accounts, everything is going to be fine. He didn’t practice today but he’s gonna be ready to roll on Sunday.”

The 34-year-old passer missed practice on Wednesday due to an ankle injury he suffered late in the West Final. He also didn’t practice on Thursday morning during the team’s closed practice.

“I’m ready to go. I’m ready to play,” Collaros told the media later in the afternoon. “I’ve just been doing what I can to get ready to play.”

The quarterback would not provide details as to the nature of his injury and said no decision has yet been made on whether he would require specific treatment pre-game in order to play.

Collaros spoke to the media after the West Final on Sunday and stressed that he would play in the CFL’s championship game, saying it’s “not even a question.” Head coach Mike O’Shea also indicated that he was not concerned about the health of his star quarterback.

The West Division’s nominee for Most Outstanding Player threw for 4,183 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions during the regular season, going 15-2 as a starter. He threw for 178 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in last week’s 28-20 victory over the B.C. Lions. He was named the league’s M.O.P. for the first time in 2021.

The 109th Grey Cup is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 20 at 6:00 p.m. EST.
