Western Mustangs’ running back Keon Edwards has been named the U Sports offensive player of the week following a stellar performance in the team’s 44-16 victory over the Queen’s Golden Gaels in the Yates Cup.
The third-year from Toronto recorded 24 carries for 260 yards and one touchdown in the victory. He took home the Dalt White Trophy as the game’s Most Valuable Player for a second consecutive season and was recently named the OUA’s Most Outstanding Player.
The five-foot-eleven, 230-pound ball carrier has rushed for 1,406 yards and 12 touchdowns over ten games this year, including the postseason.
St. FX X-Men linebacker Dyton Blackett was named the U Sports defensive player of the week after recording eight total tackles, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in his team’s 21-14 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties in the Loney Bowl. The native of Canning, N.S. made 32.5 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, and one knockdown this season.
Laval Rouge et Or defensive lineman Charles-Lee Alarie-Tardif was named the U Sports special teams player of the week after tackling Montreal’s returner in the end zone following a missed field goal to secure a win in the Dunsmore Cup with a game-winning rouge.
