The CFL has fined five players following Week 20 of the 2022 regular season.
Ottawa Redblacks’ linebacker Avery Williams was fined for a high hit on Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ defensive end Malik Carney. The four-year veteran recorded eight tackles in the 30-27 loss and has made 89 total tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and one interception over 17 games this season.
Redblacks’ linebacker Tyron Vrede was also fined for a high hit of Ticats’ return specialist Lawrence Woods III. The six-foot, 231-pound defender has made six special teams tackles in 11 games this season.
The other fines were levied against Edmonton Elks’ linebacker Tony Jones, B.C. Lions’ offensive lineman Peter Godber, and Calgary Stampeders’ defensive lineman Folarin Orimolade.
Jones was fined for a high hit on B.C. Lions’ return specialist Terry Williams, Godber was fined for an illegal block on Edmonton Elks’ defensive lineman Jake Ceresna, and Orimolade was fined for a high hit on Saskatchewan Roughriders’ quarterback Mason Fine.
As per league policy, the amounts of the fines were not disclosed to the media.
The final week of the CFL’s regular season is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, featuring games between B.C. and Winnipeg, Montreal and Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa, and Saskatchewan and Calgary.
