The Ottawa Redblacks have added to their defensive backfield, signing American Darius Williams to the club’s practice roster.

The 24-year-old is in his second CFL season and spent the majority of 2022 with the Montreal Alouettes, before being released on September 20. Williams dressed for 10 games with the team, making nine defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, and two interceptions.

Williams first entered the CFL in 2021 with the Edmonton Elks, playing in all 14 games. He recorded 30 defensive tackles and nine more on special team, to go along with a forced fumble, but was among the new regime’s first cuts last offseason.

Prior to his professional career, the five-foot-ten, 195-pound defender played for Carson-Newman University. He notched 179 tackles, a sack, eight interceptions, and two fumble recoveries in 41 games.

The Redblacks (3-11) are scheduled to travel to Montreal (7-7) on Monday, October 10, with kickoff slated for 1:00 p.m. EDT.
