The Ottawa Redblacks have signed American receiver Savon Scarver and American defensive lineman Jake Hlava to the practice roster.

Scarver went unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft but briefly signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent. He was twice named first-team All-Mountain West while playing at Utah State (2017-2021)

The five-foot-11, 175-pound speedster was a consensus All-American in 2018 as an all-purpose player, also receiving the Jet Award as the nation’s top returner. In 56 career games for the Aggies, Scarver returned 107 kickoffs for 2,935 yards and seven touchdowns, adding 55 receptions for 757 yards and five scores.

Hlava spent 2022 training camp with the Toronto Argonauts but failed to make the final roster. The six-foot-three, 251-pound defender played the previous two seasons at Grand Valley State University, where he totalled 58 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, five-and-a-half sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 22 games for the Lakers.

Prior to his time at Grand Valley State, the Batavia, Illinois native spent two years at Northern Illinois, playing in four games for the Huskies in 2017.

The Redblacks (3-9) are scheduled to play host to the division-leading Argonauts (7-5) on Saturday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
