The Edmonton Elks have ruled out offensive lineman David Beard for this week’s game due to illness, according to the team’s injury report.

The six-foot-five, 320-pound blocker has started all nine of the team’s games at centre this season. He started 18 regular season games at centre in 2019 and missed only one due to injury in 2021.

Beard was a second-round pick out of the University of Alberta in the 2015 CFL Draft. He has dressed for 93 career games since draft day and missed only one game due to injury over the past five seasons. The native of Sherwood Park, Alta. was Edmonton’s nominee for Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2019.

Defensive lineman Keisean Lucier-South was also ruled out this week due to an ankle injury. He has started two games this season and made three defensive tackles.

The Elks (2-7) are scheduled to visit the Ottawa Redblacks (1-7) on Friday, Aug. 19 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
