Edmonton Elks release starting Canadian receiver Mike Jones

The Edmonton Elks have released Canadian receiver Mike Jones, per sources.

The 29-year-old receiver has started all seven games for the team at field wideout, hauling in just eight of the 21 targets thrown his way for 100 yards.

Jones is in his sixth CFL season and second with Edmonton. The Southern University product played 11 games for the Elks last season, registering 394 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Born in Toronto and raised in Texas, Jones spent the first four years of his CFL career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. While in Steeltown, he recorded 1,472 receiving yards on 101 receptions, finding the end zone four times.
