Free agent quarterback Chris Streveler has visited the New York Jets, according to an NFL transactions document procured by Pro Football Network reporter Aaron Wilson.
Streveler has been a free agent since he was released by the Miami Dolphins in May during the club’s organized team activities, ending a three-month stint with the team. He previously had a workout with the Jets in January, though he did not sign a contract with New York.
The six-foot-one, 216-pound passer was released by the Arizona Cardinals in November 2021 after completing 17-of-25 pass attempts for 141 yards, one touchdown, and one interception over two seasons with the team. He also rushed seven times for 21 yards in a depth role behind former first overall NFL draft pick Kyler Murray.
Streveler joined the Baltimore Ravens’ practice roster in November 2021 but wasn’t retained following the conclusion of the season. He has earned over $1.1 million through two seasons in the NFL.
The 27-year-old completed 65 percent of his passes for 2,698 yards in two seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2018-19) along with 19 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,167 yards and 22 touchdowns, averaging 5.7 yards per carry.
Streveler was especially effective during Winnipeg’s championship run in 2019, rushing for 82 yards and a touchdown in the West Semi-Final before throwing a touchdown pass to Andrew Harris in the Grey Cup.
The Jets currently have three quarterbacks under contract, including Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco, and Mike White. Wilson was the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of BYU and started 13 games as a rookie, completing 55.6 percent of his passes for 2,334 yards, nine touchdown, and eleven interceptions.
Flacco was the starting quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens over eleven seasons (2008-18), leading them to a championship in Super Bowl XLVII. He has been a backup in New York for the past two seasons, completing 57.4 percent of his passes for 1,202 yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions.
White was a fifth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2018 who signed with the Jets the following year. He started three games for the club this past season, completing 66.7 percent of his passes for 953 yards, five touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
