The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be without their star receiver and one of their top pass rushers when they take on the Edmonton Elks on Friday, as both Greg Ellingson and Jackson Jeffcoat have been ruled out with hip injuries.
Both players had been listed as questionable after being limited participants on Wednesday, while Ellingson did not practice on Tuesday.
Ellingson had an excellent performance in the team’s recent victory over the Calgary Stampeders, making 11 receptions for 152 yards. He has now recorded 34 catches for 518 yards, and three touchdowns on the year, and leads in the league in receptions and receiving yardage. The 33-year-old is also on pace for new career-highs in both categories.
Jeffcoat has had a much slower start to the year and has yet to record a sack in five appearances. He continues to be a valuable source of pressure alongside Willie Jefferson, notching seven tackles, an interception and a forced fumble in 2022.
Electric return man Janarion Grant will get the start in the Bombers’ receiving corps with Ellingson absent, while rookie Tarvaris Harrison also draws into the lineup. Cedric Wilcots II will take over for Jeffcoat, backed by L.B. Mack III.
