The Edmonton Elks have officially ruled out receiver Derel Walker for Friday’s game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers due to a hip/groin injury.
The four-time divisional all-star has started five games this season at boundary wide receiver, making 22 receptions for 247 yards. He was replaced by Caleb Holley in Week 2 when he was unable to play due to a hand/finger injury.
Walker is coming off the least productive season of his career during which he made 44 catches for 531 yards and zero touchdowns over 11 games with the Elks. He made 65 receptions for 1,040 yards and six touchdowns with the Toronto Argonauts in 2019 after they made him the CFL’s highest-paid non-quarterback in free agency.
The six-foot-two, 187-pound target spent the first four seasons of his career in Edmonton (2015-18) and caught 297 passes for 4,208 yards and 26 touchdowns over four seasons. He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017 but was released at the end of training camp and returned north just days later.
The Elks (2-4) are scheduled to host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (6-0) at Commonwealth Stadium on Friday at 9:00 p.m. EDT.
