The Edmonton Elks have moved American defensive back Nafees Lyon to the six-game injured list. He did not practice this week due to a shoulder injury.
The 25-year-old was placed on the one-game injured list in Week 1 before starting four consecutive games at field-side cornerback. He recorded 14 tackles and a sack over those contests, which included a victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Week 4.
The Elks will move veteran defensive back Jalen Collins from boundary cornerback to field-side cornerback in place of Lyon, according to their depth chart. Malik Sonnier, who the team brought back this week after cutting him in late June, will start at the other cornerback spot.
Lyon spent most of the 2021 season on Edmonton’s practice roster but started the final five games of the regular season at boundary cornerback. He made 27 tackles and two interceptions, which helped him earn a spot back with the team in 2022.
Edmonton also officially moved Canadian quarterback Tre Ford to the one-game injured list with a shoulder injury he sustained last week against Calgary. The first-round draft pick has completed 18-of-32 pass attempts this season for 219 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions and ran the ball 11 times for 77 yards.
The Elks are scheduled to visit the Montreal Alouettes on Thursday evening at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. EDT.
