Riders bring back American defensive back Blace Brown, sign one other

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American defensive back Blace Brown and American linebacker Justin Rice.

Brown spent the past two seasons with the Riders and recorded 22 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, one interception, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries over 11 games with the team. He started nine games at field-side cornerback this past season before being placed on the six-game injured list. He was in training camp with the team this year but was released following its conclusion.

The six-foot, 195-pound native of Georgia dressed for 13 games at Troy University in 2018 and recorded 44 tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss, one interception, and six knockdowns, receiving Second-Team All-Conference honours. He was named First-Team All-Sun Belt the previous year after making 33 tackles, five interceptions, and six pass breakups.

Rice played one collegiate season at Utah State in 2021 and recorded 124 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, three interceptions, two knockdowns, and two forced fumbles in 14 games, earning Second-Team All-Mountain West honours. 

The six-foot-two, 225-pound defender spent the 2020 season at Arkansas State University and made 76 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and one knockdown. He was named First-Team All-Sun Belt Conference at the end of the season.

The California native started his collegiate career at Fresno State University, racking up 122 defensive tackles, nine tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions, five knockdowns, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one fumble return for a touchdown over 17 games.
