The Montreal Alouettes added a pair of players on Friday, signing Global punter Joel Whitford and American defensive lineman Isaiah Gay.
Whitford dressed for 12 games in 2021 with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and punted 68 times for a gross average of 45.1 yards per punt and a net average of 37.4 yards per punt. The 29-year-old Australian was a first-round pick in the 2021 CFL Global Draft out of the University of Washington but lost his starting job in training camp and was released last week.
Gay, a native of Nashville, North Carolina, played five seasons with the University of Illinois from 2017 to 2021. The six-foot-three, 245-pound pass rusher played in 51 career games, racking up 133 total tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, eight pass deflections, three fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and a blocked kick.
