The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have added starting weak-side linebacker Kyrie Wilson to the six-game injured list after he suffered an apparent Achilles injury against the Toronto Argonauts.
The six-foot-one, 216-pound Wilson is in his fourth season with the Bombers after originally signing with the team in 2017. He has started all four games thus far in 2022, recording 17 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle and a sack.
Wilson started all 18 regular-season games and three playoff contests for the Bombers at linebacker in their 2019 Grey Cup run. He finished third on the team in defensive plays made, registering 63 defensive tackles and four special teams tackles along with five pass knockdowns, three fumble recoveries, three tackles for loss, three sacks, and one interception.
He was limited to just seven regular-season games due to injury in 2021, making 16 tackles, but started both playoff games. Wilson posted five tackles and the game-winning interception in Winnipeg’s overtime victory in the 108th Grey Cup.
The 28-year-old Wilson dressed for six games over the 2017 and 2018 seasons, making his debut in the 2017 Banjo Bowl and then appearing in five games a year later. He was first signed by the Bombers in April of 2017 after being released by the Oakland Raiders in 2016.
The Bombers are expected to start Malik Clements at Wilson’s vacant weakside linebacker spot. Signed this offseason after being released by the Edmonton Elks, Clements recorded six tackles and a sack in relief of Wilson in Week 4.
