The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are expected to be without the services of Canadian receiver Nic Demski for several games after placing him on the six-game injured list due to an ankle injury.
Demski led the Blue Bombers with six catches for 96 yards in the team’s Week 3 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats but left the game early in the third quarter after his leg was awkwardly pinned during a tackle. The receiver did not participate in practice with the team on Thursday and offensive lineman Jermarcus Hardrick was seen sporting his number 10 jersey, often a gesture of support for a teammate who will miss significant time.
A graduate of Oak Park High School who went on to star. at the University of Manitoba, Demski has been a critical piece of the Bombers’ success since he joined his hometown team in 2018.
The 2015 first-round pick of the Saskatchewan Roughriders has played 49 games on the right side of the prairie rivalry, posting 162 receptions for 1,877 yards, 73 carries for 503 yards, and 14 total touchdowns while winning back-to-back championships. Demski was named Most Valuable Canadian of the 108th Grey Cup after scoring a critical touchdown.
Second-year Canadian receiver Brendan O’Leary-Orange is expected to step into the starting lineup during Demski’s absence, while the team has brought back American Carlton Agudosi for insurance.
The Bombers travel to Toronto this week for a rare Monday night CFL game against the Argonauts.
