The Montreal Alouettes have placed receiver Jake Wieneke and linebacker Chris Ackie on the one-game injured list.
Curiously, Wieneke was a full participant in practice on Monday and Tuesday despite being limited due to a hamstring injury on Sunday. He will be replaced in the starting lineup by third-year receiver Dante Absher. Ackie, who will be replaced by former fourth-round draft pick Brian Harelimana, did not practice this week due to an ankle injury.
Wieneke is off to a slow start this season, making just two receptions for 37 yards over two games. He was one of the most impactful receivers in the CFL in 2021 when he was named an all-star after making 56 catches for 898 yards and a league-leading 11 touchdowns.
Ackie recorded seven defensive tackles from his weak-side linebacker spot over the first two games of the season. He recorded a career-high six sacks last year along with 48 defensive tackle and two interceptions.
The Alouettes are scheduled to host the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Thursday evening in what will be the club’s home-opener. Team owner Gary Stern, who gained almost 3,000 followers on Twitter this week, revealed that he will not be able to attend the game after testing positive for COVID-19.
