The Montreal Alouettes have acquired American running back Walter Fletcher from the Edmonton Elks in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2023 CFL Draft.

Fletcher dressed for 11 games as a CFL rookie last season, recording 67 carries for 302 yards and 22 receptions for 177 yards with Edmonton. The Columbia, Md. native played his first game on Aug. 14 vs. Montreal and made his first CFL start at home against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Nov. 5.

The five-foot-nine, 191-pound ball carrier was on the one-game injured list for Edmonton’s season-opener in B.C. this past weekend.

Fletcher rushed for 726 yards and five touchdowns on 132 carries at Ball State in 2019 and made 26 receptions for 306 yards and two touchdowns.

Montreal added star running back William Stanback to the club’s six-game injured list this week as he’s undergone surgery for a broken ankle.
