The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be without all-star defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat when they open their season against the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday.

The 31-year-old was limited in practice all week due to an ankle injury and has been placed on the one-game injured list. He will be replaced by rookie L.B. Mack III, with Cedric Wilcots II also expected to rotate in for the Bombers.

Jeffcoat is coming off the best season of his career during which he recorded 26 tackles, nine sacks, and four forced fumbles. He was named a CFL all-star for the first time in his four-year career and continued his strong play in the postseason, making two tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble in the West Final.

The native of Dallas, Texas has recorded 109 total tackles, 26 sacks, nine forced fumbles, and one interception over 52 career games with the Blue Bombers.

His replacement Mack joined the Bombers after an NCAA career with the University of Rhode Island. The defensive end was named to the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association All-Conference second team and will be remembered in Rams history, as he finished his career second in program history in tackles for loss at 39 and fourth in sacks with 21.
