Bombers’ all-star DL Jackson Jeffcoat misses practice due to ankle injury

Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ edge rusher Jackson Jeffcoat missed practice on Monday due to an ankle injury, according to the team’s injury report.

The 31-year-old is coming off the best season of his career during which he recorded 26 tackles, nine sacks, and four forced fumbles. He was named a CFL all-star for the first time in his four-year career and continued his strong play in the postseason, making two tackles, one sacks, and one forced fumble in the West Final.

The native of Dallas, Texas has recorded 109 total tackles, 26 sacks, nine forced fumbles, and one interception over 52 career games with the Blue Bombers.

Other players who sat out Monday’s practice in Winnipeg include fullback Mike Miller (ankle), receiver Kelvin McKnight (hip), and linebacker Les Maruo (elbow).

The Blue Bombers are scheduled to open their regular season on Friday against the Ottawa Redblacks.

Ottawa was without defensive lineman Nigel Romick (head) in practice on Monday, while running back William Powell (Achilles) and offensive lineman Randy Richards (hamstring) were limited.
