The Edmonton Elks have signed former Toronto Argonauts’ defensive back Treston Decoud, according to his Twitter feed. The 28-year-old was released by the Argos last week.
Decoud started 13 games for the Argos in 2021 primarily at field-side cornerback. He recorded 26 total tackles in his lone CFL season following stints with the Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, and the XFL.
Head coach and general manager Chris Jones served as the defensive coordinator in Toronto last season after Glen Young was placed on leave. It’s likely that the existing familiarity between the two was a factor in the signing.
CFL teams are in the process of executing their final training camp cuts with the Saskatchewan Roughriders being the only team yet to announce their moves.
Jones indicated that Edmonton’s cuts would be easy to make because of how badly his team played in a 37-7 preseason loss to the Calgary Stampeders.
