Ottawa Redblacks sign 2021 second-round CFL Draft pick DB Alonzo Addae

The Ottawa Redblacks have added another standout Canadian to their secondary, signing defensive back Alonzo Addae to a CFL contract.

The 24-year-old Addae was selected in the second round, 13th overall, by the Redblacks in the 2021 CFL Draft. The Pickering, Ontario native was coming off a standout 2020 season with West Virginia University, where he recorded 66 total tackles, two interceptions, five pass deflections, and a forced fumble in 10 starts for a Mountaineers team that finished 6-4 and won the 2020 Liberty Bowl 24-21 over the Army Black Knights.

After returning to school for the 2021 college football season, the five-foot-10, 190-pounder racked up 73 total tackles, four-and-a-half tackles for loss, three pass deflections, one sack and one fumble recovery in 12 starts for a West Virginia team that ended the season 6-7 after losing the 2021 Guaranteed Rate Bowl 18-6 to the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Addae finished his collegiate career by being named an honourable mention All-Big 12 in 2021 and All-Big 12 second team in 2020 after transferring to West Virginia from the University of New Hampshire.

At New Hampshire, Addae played in 24 games, starting seven, and recorded 61 total tackles during his three seasons with the Wildcats.

The Redblacks also announced that receivers R.J. Harris and Seantavius Jones have been removed from the suspended list.
