The Toronto Argonauts signed American linebacker Jonathan Jones and released Canadian receiver Matt Gledhill.

Jones had 116 total tackles, nine-and-a-half tackles for loss, four sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 19 games over two seasons with the University of Toledo.

Prior to his time with the Rockets, the Ocoee, Florida native played 38 games at the University of Notre Dame between 2017-2019. The five-foot-11, 230-pound Jones tallied 17 total tackles, two tackles for loss and one pass breakup during his career with the Fighting Irish.

Gledhill signed with the Argos in March of this year after playing 22 games over six seasons at Acadia University. The six-foot-three, 215-pound native of Perry Sound, Ontario caught 52 passes for 805 yards and seven touchdowns during his time with the Axemen.

The 24-year-old caught four passes for 106 yards in Acadia’s 31-1 win over Bishop’s University in the 2019 Money Bowl and was named an Atlantic University Sport all-star in 2021.

Gledhill impressed during the Eastern Regional Combine this past March, recording a 37.5-inch vertical jump — the best of any prospect at that combine — and a nine-foot, 11-and-5/8-inch broad jump, which ranked second. Gledhill added a 4.70-second forty-yard dash, 7.50-second three-cone, 4.50-second short shuttle, as well as 12 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.
