The Toronto Argonauts have added a pair of Americans ahead of training camp, signing offensive lineman Kofi Appiah and defensive back Caleb Holden.

Appiah played four seasons at Villanova University from 2018 to 2021 and made 26 starts in 28 appearances for the Wildcats. The six-foot-six, 305-pound native of Maryland helped Villanova average almost 400 yards of offence per game in 2020, including 208 yards on the ground. The 23-year-old was part of the conference’s Honour Roll in 2020.

Holden played five seasons at Merrimack College from 2017 to 2021 where over the course of 45 games, the five-foot-ten, 180-pound defender made 106 tackles, one sack, nine interceptions, 43 pass deflections, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. The 23-year-old New Jersey native was All-Conference Third Team in 2018 and spent rookie mini-camp with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021.

In a corresponding move, American defensive back James Sample has been added to the team’s retired list.
