The Ottawa Redblacks have signed the team’s 2021 first-round CFL Draft pick, linebacker Deshawn Stevens.
The 24-year-old was selected sixth overall by the Redblacks last year.
The Toronto native was coming off a season with the University of Maine that saw him record up 36 tackles, including 13 unassisted, in a shortened four-game season. Stevens transferred to West Virginia University for his final NCAA season and recorded 12 tackles through 10 games.
At Maine’s pro day in April, Stevens ran a 4.94-second forty-yard dash with a 1.62-second ten-yard split, before jumping eight-foot, ten-inches in the broad and 28-inches in the vertical. He also recorded a 7.18-second three-cone and 4.41 short shuttle, while putting up 21 reps of 225 pounds on the bench at six-foot-one and 246 pounds.
