Canadian defensive back Alonzo Addae has been invited to attend rookie mini-camp with the Arizona Cardinals after going unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The five-foot-ten, 190-pound safety used his extra year of COVID-19 eligibility to return to West Virginia University for a second senior season in 2021. He made 73 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, three pass breakups, one sack, and one fumble recovery over 13 games.

Addae’s best NCAA season came in 2020 when he made 66 total tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, five pass breakups, and one forced fumble in ten games. He was named All-Big 12 Conference second team after finishing tied for eighth in the conference in interceptions and 12th in the conference in tackles per game with 6.6.

He played his first two college seasons at the University of New Hampshire (2017-2018) after redshirting with the Wildcats in 2016. He sat out the 2019 season to complete his transfer to West Virginia as per the NCAA’s transfer eligibility requirements.

At his pro day in March, the native of Pickering, Ont. recorded eight reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, a 4.58-second forty-yard dash, a 34-inch vertical, a 116-inch broad jump, a 4.23-second shuttle, and 7.01-second three-cone time.

Addae was selected in the second round, 13th overall during the 2021 CFL Draft by the Ottawa Redblacks. Should his opportunity with the Cardinals not result in a contract offer, he could be an impact player in the nation’s capital this season.
