Canadian offensive tackle Sage Doxtater has signed with the New Orleans Saints after going unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft, according to Colin Deaver.
Since arriving at New Mexico State in 2016, Doxtater has started 48 of the 50 games he’s played at left tackle. He has allowed only 14 sacks in his college career, with just two of them coming last season. He earned an invitation to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, but was unable to participate due to injury.
At his pro day last month, Doxtater checked in at a trim six-foot-six and 317 pounds — down from his listed 350 — with 33-and-three-quarter-inch arms. The sixth-year left tackle put up 27 reps on the bench press of 225 pounds and clocked a 5.40 second forty-yard dash, with a 1.89 second ten-yard split. Doxtater also posted a 28-inch vertical and eight-foot, five-inch broad jump, while running a 4.99 second short shuttle and 8.17 second three-cone.
A member of the Oneida Nation of the Thames, Doxtater joins Buffalo Bills’ defensive tackle Eli Ankou on the short list of Indigenous Canadians playing in the NFL. He was selected 12th overall by the Toronto Argonauts in the second round of the 2021 CFL Draft, but opted to return to school for his additional year of COVID eligibility in order to attract more interest south of the border.
