The Edmonton Elks have signed American defensive back Saquan Hampton ahead of the the 2022 CFL season
The six-foot-one, 209-pound defender was selected 177th overall by the New Orleans Saints in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He appeared in five games for New Orleans that season, recording one tackle. Hampton was released by the team the next season and spent part of the year with the New York Jets.
The native of Hamilton, NJ spent four seasons at Rutgers University (2015-2018), racking up 177 total tackles, 24 pass breakups including five interceptions and earned the Homer Hazel Award as the team’s most valuable player in 2018.
In a corresponding move, the Elks released American receiver Darren Carrington II. Carrington leaves the Elks without any game action after the Utah product signed with the Elks earlier this year.
