Edmonton Elks release Canadian defensive back Josh Woodman, sign Mar’quess Daniels

The Edmonton Elks have released Canadian defensive back Josh Woodman and signed American linebacker Mar’quess Daniels.

Woodman played seven games for the Elks last season and made one special teams tackle. He is a veteran of 49 career CFL regular season games and has recorded 35 defensive tackles, 17 special teams tackles, one interception, and one forced fumble.

The Chatham, Ont. native broke into the CFL after being selected 44th overall in the 2016 CFL Draft by the Elks. The former second team All-Canadian went on to play with Edmonton from 2016 to 2018, before spending the 2019 season with the B.C. Lions.

Daniels played collegiately at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. where he was a two-time second team conference all-star. The native of Trumbull, Conn. played at CMU from 2019 to 2021, accumulating 149 total tackles and 12 sacks.
