The Edmonton Elks have signed American defensive lineman Damien Lowery.
Lowery, who turns 21 in June, joins the Elks after most recently playing junior college at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M from 2019 through 2021.
“I didn’t start playing football until I was 14 years old. My grades were bad going into my senior [high school] year and in that situation there is nothing much they can do but to take a chance on you,” Lowery said.
“I came here, this was my only offer out of high school and the rest is history. I build bonds with everybody on the team. I’ve always been that energizer bunny on the field because I feel like if you’re not talking or communicating with your teammates, you’re not going to win.”
The Sanford, FL native checks in at six-foot-one and 269 pounds.
The Elks 2022 season opens with pre-season action on Friday, May 27 when the Green and Gold travel to Winnipeg. Edmonton’s regular season home opener is set for Saturday, June 18.
