The Toronto Argonauts have signed American defensive lineman Jachai Polite.
The six-foot-three, 258-pound Polite played 11 games for the Los Angeles Rams in 2020, tallying four tackles and one sack.
The 23-year-old Florida native was selected in the third round, 68th overall by the New York Jets during the 2019 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year contract worth $3.64 million which included a $1.12 million signing bonus. However, he was cut after training camp in his rookie year.
The Seattle Seahawks signed him to the practice squad for two weeks prior to the Rams bringing him in for the rest of the 2019 and 2020 season. He was released by LA in January 2021 and had been a free agent since that time.
Polite was named first team All-Southeastern Conference after his junior season at the University of Florida. In that 2018 year, he recorded 45 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, six forced fumbles and defended four passes. The three-year Gator (2016-2018) totalled 43 tackles, 28.5 tackles for loss, 15 sacks and eight forced fumbles in 29 career games.
