The Edmonton Elks are continuing to tease the unveiling of a new look for the franchise.
March 3 is the date the full uniforms will be made available for all to see and the team tweeted an up-close photo of a gold helmet with a more defined antler.
On Sunday, the Elks tweeted a simple graphic with that date and the team logo in front of the backdrop of a helmet facemask. The caption read: “Next chapter, coming soon…”
The post fueled speculation that the team would be unveiling new jerseys for the 2022 season, replacing those hurriedly instituted following the name change last off-season. Reactions were mixed towards the Elks’ antlered helmets, but their all-white jersey numbers were almost universally panned by fans who believe gold numbering is an essential franchise marker.
Under the leadership of new president Victor Cui, the Elks have been on a mission to reconnect with the community and restore interest in the beleaguered franchise. On Monday, the team’s $99 season ticket promotion sold more seats than any other day in club history.
The B.C. Lions have also teased a potential jersey change in the near future, indicating that there may be more jersey unveils across the league this offseason.
