The B.C. Lions can’t have nice things and the reason why is Saskatchewan Roughriders’ defensive tackle Garrett Marino.

The Lions tweeted an article on Tuesday in which recently-signed Canadian quarterback Michael O’Connor said, “I think we have the right pieces to compete for a Grey Cup this year.” Marino used the tweet as an opportunity to share a video of him scorching the Lions’ offensive line using the caption, “Got to fix that o line before u win a grey cup.”

The clip came from Week 1 of the 2021 season during which Marino recorded two tackles and one sack in his CFL debut. The University of Alabama-Birmingham product finished the year with 13 tackles and four sacks, though he was limited to only seven regular season games due to a knee injury.

In fairness to B.C., the club finished tied for fourth in the CFL after allowing 35 sacks in 2021. Hamilton and Saskatchewan were tied for seventh with 40 sacks allowed, while the Ottawa Redblacks were a distant ninth after allowing 53 sacks.

Marino didn’t stop with B.C., posting this clip of him beating Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ guard Brandon Revenberg for a sack. We especially like the 27-year-old’s commentary that accompanies this video. “Weeee-hew!”

Marino’s injury took place during the Banjo Bowl (a.k.a. the Banjo Brawl), a game from which he was also ejected after throwing a punch. In this tweet, he accuses Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ guard Drew Desjarlais for being soft because quarterback Sean McGuire came to his rescue. Desjarlais has since signed with the New England Patriots.

Marino is poised to take on a larger role with the Riders in 2022 following the departure of perennial all-star defensive tackle Micah Johnson in free agency. He indicated that his knee is now healthy in another tweet in which he wrote, “Season need to come quicker I got f**** last year with my knee I’m healthy now let’s go.”

We’re excited for the 2022 season, too, Garrett. Keep the tweets coming.
