The Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals are preparing to face off in Super Bowl LVI, but one prominent Canadian athlete believes someone else should win.
The NBA’s Dallas Mavericks released a video on Twitter ahead of the big game highlighting their players’ Super Bowl picks and centre Dwight Powell went off the board, proudly exclaiming the Toronto Argonauts as he made his way onto the team’s charter flight.
Our #SuperBowl predictions are locked in ????
Who ya got, MFFLs? Bengals or Rams? (You can also give us your Maddy vs. Cassie picks ????)@hotelsdotcom | #MavsOnTheMove pic.twitter.com/Y62v7J7I0T

The declaration clearly caught the Mavs’ video team off guard, as they failed to spell the name of the oldest professional sports franchise in North America correctly. The Argos, however, have forgiven them.
A product of Earl Haig Secondary School in Toronto, Powell has carved out a solid NBA career after being selected 45th overall in the second round of the 2014 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets. In eight seasons with the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks, he has played 486 games and averaged 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds. He won a bronze medal as part of Team Canada in the 2015 FIBA AmeriCup.
Powell was clearly excited by the Argos’ signing of former CFL MOP Brandon Banks on Sunday morning, but even the electric speedster won’t be able to lead the Boatmen to a cross-league championship. Instead, the NBA big man will have to be satisfied cheering for a pair of fellow Ontarians, defensive lineman Michael Hoecht and offensive lineman Alaric ‘A.J.’ Jackson, to take home the trophy with the Los Angeles Rams.
