The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed defensive back and strong-side linebacker Alden Darby to a one-year contract for the 2022 season, per sources.
The five-foot-11, 195-pound Darby was acquired in a July 2021 trade and started 11 regular season games at SAM backer for Winnipeg, recording 34 tackles during the shortened schedule. He started the West Final and 108th Grey Cup, registering eight tackles, one sack and one interception while helping the Blue Bombers win a second straight CFL championship.
During 43 games with the the Toronto Argonauts, including 40 starts, Darby registered 137 tackles, eight interceptions, three touchdowns, and one sack. He had 56 tackles and five interceptions in 17 games with the Argos in 2019.
Darby appeared in 50 games over four seasons at Arizona State University (2010-2013) and was a two-time All-Pac 12 player. He was signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted NFL free agent in 2014 and has also had stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, and Indianapolis Colts before he came to Canada.
