The Toronto Argonauts have signed American receiver Darece Roberson Jr.
The five-foot-10, 170-pound Roberson Jr. played four seasons at Wayne State University from 2016-2019. Over the course of 43 games, he caught 92 passes for 1,767 yards and 24 touchdowns, while also adding one punt and one kick return touchdown during his NCAA career.
Prior to attending Wayne State, Roberson Jr. was a three-sport athlete at Mona Shores High School, competing in basketball and track and field along with football, serving as a captain in all three sports. He ran a 10.79-second 100-yard dash in high school.
The Michigan native was named Wayne State Rookie of the Year in 2016, earned second-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2018 and first-team All-GLIAC in 2019. Roberson Jr. twice had seasons with an average yards per catch over 20 yards in his collegiate career, ranking second in program history in that category.
As a senior, Roberson Jr. had 34 catches for 706 yards and nine scores, adding 118 rushing yards on seven carries. He averaged 32.3 yards per kick return, gaining 324 yards on 10 returns, including a 96-yard touchdown in the final game of his university career.
During his pro day in 2020, Roberson Jr. was clocked at 4.35 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He spent time with Arizona and Seattle after going unselected in the NFL Draft in 2020.
