The CFL’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player, DeVonte Dedmon has signed with the Miami Dolphins.
The news comes courtesy Natey Adjei: The most feared returner in the CFL is signing with Miami Dolphins. Big loss for the Redblacks but great to see CFL talent get opportunities down south.
Dedmon worked out for Miami, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers, Arizona Cardinals, Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.
The William & Mary product was named the league’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2021 after amassing 48 punt returns for 737 yards and two touchdowns, 11 kick-off returns for 1,223 yards and one touchdown, and four missed field goals for 103 yards.
During the 2021 season, he shattered the record set by Canadian Football Hall of Fame return specialist Henry ‘Gizmo’ Williams as the fastest player to reach five career return touchdowns — Dedmon needed just 15 games compared to Williams 18.
As a rookie in 2019, Dedmon returned 22 punts for 339 yards and one touchdown, a 95-yard major. He added 16 kick-off returns for 542 yards with one touchdown covering 111 yards. The five-foot-10, 200-pound playmaker played five games in his first CFL season.
Dedmon has 18 receptions for 161 yards and 10 carries for 68 yards with one touchdown while playing on offence.
The 26-year old is signed with the Redblacks through the 2022 season, but Dedmon is taking advantage of the NFL option window to explore opportunities south of the border.
