Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Dane Evans knows exactly who he’s cheering for to win the Super Bowl and why.

“I play a lot of Madden and I can’t stand when somebody gets the Chiefs because they’re unstoppable,” Evans said.

He has a hard time seeing any other team but Kansas City capturing the Lombardi Trophy. It’s admittedly a biased pick due to his personal relationship with superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“Me and Pat we have the same agency, so I gotta stay with him. Whenever we’re around in the off-season we throw together,” Evans explained.

“We didn’t workout last off-season together because of COVID but usually every off-season we do. We’ve trained at the same facility since our pro days in college and we were in the same draft class.”

APEC in Forth Worth is where the two Texas natives put work in to be at their respective bests. After NCAA careers at the University of Tulsa and Texas Tech University respectively, Evans and Mahomes prepared for the 2017 NFL Draft at APEC.

“It started as a baseball facility and it has transitioned more into specifically quarterbacks. I see him every now and then, I haven’t talked to him in a little bit, obviously he’s busy with you know, he’s got some things going on,” Evans said.

“I don’t text him that much, I don’t like it when everybody blows my phone up. The one time I did text him was when they won the Super Bowl and told him congrats and he shot me a text right back and said: ‘Thanks, man.'”

Mahomes led his Chiefs to a 12-5 record during the regular season as Kansas City enters the NFL post-season as the second seed in the American Football Conference. Evans will be watching intently as the 26-year-old tries to guide the Chiefs to a third straight NFL championship game and earn his second Super Bowl title.

“We’ll see each other at the facility and throw, he’s a great guy. I’m pretty sure he’s going to be training there again this off-season,” Evans said. “I’m trying to figure out where I’m going to be and what months I’m going to be where, so if it lines up we’ll probably see each other there.”
