The Toronto Argonauts are set to add one of the CFL’s most respected position coaches to their staff, as Postmedia’s Danny Austin reports that Pete Costanza will be joining former colleague Ryan Dinwiddie in the centre of the universe.
Costanza is best known for his time with the Calgary Stampeders, where he spent 11 seasons as receivers coach from 2009 to 2019. He oversaw the development of pass catchers Reggie Begelton, Marken Michel, Kamar Jorden, DaVaris Daniels and Eric Rogers to name a handful.
Costanza was let go after the 2019 season as a casualty of the CFL’s football operations cap. He would go on to sign in Winnipeg as the team’s running backs coach, helping the Bombers to their second consecutive Grey Cup.
During his tenure, Winnipeg’s running backs accumulated 1,337 yards through 14 games, with three different Canadian backs crossing the century mark in a game.
Argos head coach Ryan Dinwiddie spent four seasons working alongside Costanza as quarterbacks coach, reaching the Grey Cup three times and winning in 2018.
