Redblacks star DeVonte Dedmon works out for Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers hosted CFL star DeVonte Dedmon for a workout on Wednesday.

Dedmon has already worked out for the Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Arizona Cardinals this off-season. He went unselected in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The 26-year-old is signed through the 2022 season with the Ottawa Redblacks, but is taking advantage of the NFL option window to explore opportunities south of the border.

The William & Mary product was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2021 after recording 48 punt returns for 737 yards and two touchdowns, 11 kickoff returns for 1,223 yards and one touchdown, and four missed field goals for 103 yards.

He shattered the record set by Canadian Football Hall of Fame return specialist Henry ‘Gizmo’ Williams as the fastest player to reach five career return touchdowns — Dedmon needed just 15 games, while Williams needed 18.

The NFL option window opened on Monday, Dec. 13, 2021 and will remain open until 12:01 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022. CFL players are able to work out for NFL teams during this period even if they are under contract with a team north of the border.
